Wooden Coat Rack

Last week I made a few of these coat racks for the store. They are constructed of reclaimed spruce. The back aboard has been scorched with a torch and then finished with tung oil. The hook part of the rack is also from reclaimed spruce they have been steam bent and are held in place with silicon bronze ring nails, Also finished with tung oil. The rack has key hole slots in the back so it can be mounted on screws.

Counter tops

I have finally finished our counter tops so I thought I would share a couple of photos. The last piece of the puzzle was the butcher block top that I had mentioned in my last post. The new top is now in its place between the new stove and my concrete counter tops. One step closer to the kitchen being done :)

Kitchen Utensils

This week I have been making an end grain butcher block counter top for our kitchen.  The butcher block is made up of Yellow Birch strips all glued together. I then cross cut the glue up into two inch lengths and flipped on edge and glued all those bits and so on... Anyhow I had lots of scraps of this beautiful Yellow Birch that I felt were too good for the stove so I decided to turn them into some kitchen utensils. All utensils are sanded out to 380 grit and finished with mineral oil. I also had a length of the glue up that wasn't need for the counter top that I turned into a small cutting board sort of 10" x 12" x 2" Also finished with mineral oil.

Canoe restoration

Hi everyone I have been MIA from my site for a spell. I have been out of the country doing some yacht work. Before my departure however I did manage some more head way with the Huron canoe restoration. I have milled up some beautiful new Spruce gunwales both inside and out as well as a new keel of the same stock. The canvas filler was given the appropriate time to cure before sanding. I then proceeded to give the hull a couple of coats of Interlux Pre-Kote primer in preparation for top coat. The top coat was applied using the roll and tip method. I used Interlux Brightside as my top coat applying three coats before calling it done. Upon my return in early May I hope to get the restoration going again. The picture below is the first coat of Brightside. Thanks for looking!
